Research Groups

The research groups in the Department of Intensive Care Medicine study problems such as the pathophysiology of (multi-)organ failure and the host response in critical disease. The objective of all these studies is to develop specific therapies for critically ill patients.

Some of our innovative concepts are as follows:

  • Therapy of severe infections (e. g. with bacteriophages)
  • Personalised therapy to modulate the host response (e.g. by immune modulation)
  • Fluid therapy
  • Cardiovascular research (e. g. after re-animation treatment, ECMO therapy)
  • Biomarkers
  • Virtual reality
  • Nursing research
